 St John’s University was established as St John’s College in 1867 by the Vincentian community through the initiative of the Most Rev. John Loughlin, Brooklyn’s first Roman Catholic Bishop. Initially, the college started on Brooklyn’s Lewis Avenue with just six faculties and 47 students. The New York State Charter granted the powers of a University to the institution college in 1906. It was renamed as St. John’s University, New York in 1954. Currently.
